"Ladies of the Derby"

This painting was commissioned to appear in the 1989 Kentucky Derby Magazine along with an article honoring the only three fillies to reign over the colts on Derby Day. The original now hangs in the Kentucky Derby Museum as part of the display honoring Winning Colors.

These fillies hold a very special place in racing history because of their victories in the sport's most special race. They triumphed in an area where colts usually dominate, but during these three years of the Run for The Roses, the colts had to take a back seat to the "Ladies of the Derby".

Each lithograph print is individually signed and numbered by the artist.
